Police believe drugs may have played a part in a fatal shooting Friday morning in north Nashville.
Delano K. Blair, 30, was found shot about 10 a.m. in the 3300 block of Moorewood Drive. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Witness James Leach Rucker said he was talking with a neighbor on Moorewood Drive when he saw Blair walk by.
"As we were talking, the young man walked down the street, so we didn't think anything about it. But about three minutes after that, we heard, 'Pow, pow, pow, pow,'" Rucker said.
Police said at the time of the shooting, Blair was carrying a loaded pistol in his pocket and had drugs packaged for resale in a backpack.
In 2005, Blair received an eight-year sentence on an aggravated robbery conviction and was prohibited by both state and federal law from possessing a firearm, police said.
"It's just unbelievable something like this happens so quick. It's just another family that lost a brother. It's sad," Rucker said.
Neighbors say it's not unusual to hear gunshots at night, but they say never before has someone been killed in broad daylight.
"I think that it's just awful. I've been living here for 10 years, and I have never seen anything like this happening here," said nearby resident Beverly Lozada.
Police are working to determine a suspect in the fatal shooting. If you have any information that could help investigators, call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
