RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -
Work is scheduled to begin on the $110 million Gateway Plaza building in downtown Richmond. The building will go between 8th and 9th Streets, just north of Canal Street.
The construction is expected to take eight to 10 weeks. The 8th Street connector will remain open during the first three weeks but will be reduced to three lanes. It will be closed and traffic rerouted for the rest of the construction.
Northbound 9th Street will be reduced from five to four lanes from Canal Street to Cary Street.
Once the 8th Street Connector closes, drivers on 8th Street will turn left on East Canal, travel east on the new, one-block, two-way portion of East Canal and, then turn right at 9th Street onto the bridge approach.
