Gov. McDonnell: "I'm not going anywhere"

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has given no consideration to resigning, he said in an interview while visiting Virginia troops in Afghanistan.

McDonnell said in an interview with WRC-TV, the federal investigation involving his ties to Star Scientific and its CEO Jonnie Williams have not changed his plans to remain in office for the final five-and-a-half months of his term.

"I'm not going anywhere. I love this job," he said in the satellite interview from Kabul. "I think there were some very bad rumors about [me resigning]. There's been no consideration of that."

McDonnell said he regretted that any actions created the appearance of impropriety, created a problem for Virginia and caused some embarrassment. He hoped his apology Tuesday would help heal trust with the citizens.
