State champion Albany All-Stars ready to represent Georgia

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

On Saturday, the Albany American Dixie Youth Baseball White All-Stars Team won the 9-10 year old state championship, earning a spot in the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series.

By Sunday though,  it was back to work, getting ready for a DYB World Series title run.

The all-stars went undefeated at last week's state championships at Gordon Sports Park.

The weekend culminated with a two-game sweep over the Columbus All-Stars to earn the state championship.

Now, they're headed to Laurel, MS for the DYB World Series.

Coaches say the team's number one task until the tournament is staying focused.

But they admit the team is excited to represent not only the city of Albany, but the state of Georgia as well.

"We're going there trying to represent the state of Georgia," says assistant coach Terrell Rountree. "It's an honor. It's an honor to be in this situation to represent this great city and the state."

The team is accepting donations to help offset travel and lodging expenses for the team. They also hope to purchase new uniforms for the tournament.

You can help the team by donating to the Team Georgia/ Albany American account at Regions Bank.
