A fire at a school playground in south Richmond damages not only the play area but part of the school building as well. Now authorities are trying to figure out if it was arson.
Just after noon, Sunday, crews rushed to J. L. Francis Elementary School on Snead Road of reports of a fire.
Preschool teacher Sherri Henderson lives nearby and rushed over when she heard her school was in trouble.
"The playground being burnt down really has destroyed some people because it was for the kids," said Henderson.
She said, this playground was recently donated to the school and was installed just a few months before school let out for the summer.
"The playground was donated to make it handicap accessible and now the newer part of the playground is destroyed," said Henderson.
We're told two windows in a classroom were damaged too. Authorities are now looking into the cause.
