CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield Police say they just nabbed a serial burglar. 22-year-old Kyle Walker is accused of hitting several homes and cars off Old Hundred Road and Hull Street Roads. These cases date back to late May.
Residents along Rollingway Road were shocked to hear their quiet neighbor was recently hit with back to back burglaries.
"It's kind of scary," said Johnette Worley. "With it being so close to home."
Worley walks her dog along Rollingway everyday.
"People just really have to be aware of their surroundings," said Worley. "What is sad is that it happens in their own home."
Walker is facing 12 felony charges. Those charges include burglary and grand larceny.
"He was pretty bold," said Lt. Steve Grohowski with the Chesterfield Police Department. "He was breaking into houses at nighttime."
The latest burglary happened on the 13100 block of Old Well Lane. Police say the family was home at the time of the attempted burglary. The family told police the suspect got away in a dark colored car.
Police located the car and claim they found Walker's driver's license in the vehicle. Police say they have connected Walker to at least 7 cases. Walker is accused of stealing jewelry, electronics, and credit cards.
"What surprises me is there are a lot of police officers that live in this subdivision," said Worley.
Police say a tip about Walker's hair led to the arrest.
"It was a confidential tip saying that he had gone to the VCU area and changed his hair color," said Worley. "That's how we were able to capture him last week."
Investigators are still building their case. They say there could be additional charges.
Walker was released from prison in October 2015. He contacted NBC12 to issue a public apology to his victims.
