Wendy Davis raked in $1 million after filibuster

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) – Her quest to stop a bill placing new restrictions on abortions may have been blocked, but apparently her persistence made quite the impression on the entire country

According to Texas Senator Wendy Davis' political organization, the democrat brought in over $900,000 between June 17 and June 30. That brought her cash-on-hand to more than a million dollars.

However, much of that cash came from out of state. Only 4,900 contributions came from Texas, totaling 580,000 of her nearly million-dollar haul.

Davis spoke for more than 10 hours on June 25 to stall legislation banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. That filibuster helped prevent the bill from coming to a vote in the Senate, forcing Governor Rick Perry to call a special legislative session to reconsider the abortion measure.

That filibuster helped prevent the bill from coming to a vote in the Senate, forcing Governor Rick Perry to call a special legislative session to reconsider the abortion measure. It was approved by both chambers last week and Perry is expected to sign it into law in the coming days.

Davis released a statement saying she is, "grateful and humbled by the outpouring of support."

Many have already named Davis as a potential Democratic candidate for governor in 2014.
