The body of a woman who slipped and fell on some rocks was pulled from the Appomattox River Sunday afternoon.
Theresa Mintree was pulled from the river Sunday just after 2 p. m. following rescue attempts that began unfolding near Campbells Bridge in Petersburg.
She fell in the river and the current swept her away just, according to the victim's boyfriend. Rescue boats were in the water, including a dive team, and State Police even issued a helicopter to circle the area in an attempt to track the victim's body.
The chopper followed it floating downstream for about a mile and a half. The body fell over a thirty foot dam and also went under Campbells Bridge and the Martin Luther King Bridge before crews were able to pull it out of the river.
Last weekend another drowning occurred in the same area. Authorities say the water level may not be at flood level right now, but they warn the fast current is dangerous and people near the river should take caution.
