VCU and Richmond police stepped up patrols Wednesday night after a man was the victim of a violent robbery in Monroe Park.
There are still no arrests in the case and students say, they are on edge while the suspects are still on the loose.
The robbery happened around 9:00 Tuesday night. The victim told officers, three men asked to use his cell phone. When he refused, they beat him up, took his backpack and phone, got into a silver sedan and took off.
VCU student Matt Riley says, he never goes on campus when it's dark and avoids Monroe Park at night.
"I'm not on campus when it's dark," said Riley. "I don't feel safe on campus when it's dark."
Riley says, when he got the VCU text alert on his phone saying someone had been robbed, he wasn't surprised.
"We get those text alerts all the time," he said. "It's just something that happens around here."

Meanwhile, police continue to patrol the area and look for those suspects who got away for now.
