HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) -

Hopewell Police have arrested a man accused of killing a female employee early Monday morning.

62-year-old Joseph Lemue Green of the 4100 block of Baxter Ridge Road is accused of shooting 39-year-old Velacita Jones around 7:50 a.m. at the Hardee's on Oak Lawn Boulevard. EMTs rushed Jones to John Randolph Medical Center, but were unable to save her.

Jones' best friend and sister-in-law, Priscilla Jones,  says she left behind three children, ages six, 18, and 20.

"I didn't believe it," said Jones. "I jumped out of my seat when I got the phone call. I'm just hurting right now. That was my girl. She was so sweet. We used to kick it all time. We had just played dominos last night."

Police have called the murder domestic-related, but have not yet revealed Green's relation to Jones, but relatives say he was an ex-boyfriend. Police say Green also shot at a second employee who tried to help Jones. Green is charged with murder, with additional charges pending. He is being held at Riverside Regional Jail.
