PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

One of the 19 firefighters killed when a windblown wildfire overcame them in Yarnell has been eulogized in a memorial service in his Southern California hometown.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports about 2,000 people gathered in Hemet's Ramona Bowl to remember 30-year-old Chris MacKenzie.

He was one of the members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who were killed fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire north of Phoenix on June 30.

Friends said he was a lover of the outdoors who had an infectious smile and an "uncanny ability to lighten the mood."

MacKenzie was followed his father -- a former California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection captain in Moreno Valley -- into firefighting.

The first official funeral service to remember all 19 firefighters took place July 9 in Prescott Valley. The individual services for five of the fallen firefighters took place the next day.

Travis Turbyfill's memorial was for family and friends only July 10 at Height's Church in Prescott.

Andrew Ashcraft's service in Prescott Valley was held the same day and was open to the public. It was held at Tim's Toyota Center, the same arena as Tuesday's joint service.

The ashes of Marine William "Billy" Warneke were flown by a Blackhawk helicopter to Marana on July 10.

There was a 6-mile long procession that started about 3:15 p.m. from the Marana Airport to the Marana mortuary for his funeral. It also included full honor guard, a 21-gun salute and flyover. It was open to the public but there was limited space.

The urn carrying the remains of John Percin Jr. was transported from the Portland airport to the fire station in Lake Oswego. His family has a full processional escort. There is a public viewing at his fire station all day Thursday. The family is holding a private memorial on Friday. His public service is set for Saturday, just outside of Portland.

Anthony Rose's ashes were flown to Chicago on July 10 and taken to Beach Park where he grew up. A hero's salute was held Wednesday night.

The fallen firefighters were transported in a solemn caravan of 19 hearses back to Prescott on July 7 from the medical examiner's office in downtown Phoenix, escorted with a full color guard and bagpipe presentation.

APS covered the entire cost of the service late Tuesday morning at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. The center held 6,000 family members, friends and fellow firefighters. The pubic was able to watch the service on jumbotrons outside of the center.

On July 7, the Phoenix Fire Department assisted the town of Prescott and surrounding communities in escort vehicles containing the fallen firefighters from the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office in central Phoenix to the town of Prescott through Yarnell.

The Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial Incident Management Team is reaching out to all the honor guards, pipes and drums, buglers and rifle teams to help with the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial and individual funerals in Prescott, and to help with the transfer of the fallen firefighters, escorts and honor guards in their home towns.

People able to participate, please email honorguardforyarnellfallen@gmail.com to pre-register. Please include the total number of people and their position, the dates you're available, your Honor Guard unit's detail leader, email and cell phone number. Also, please indicate if you have been requested by the family of one of the fallen to be their escort from Prescott to their home town. For questions, call the Honor Guard at 928-771-0124.
