Richmond police fighting string of armed robberies on Midlothian Turnpike

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Neighbors are concerned about a rash of armed robberies along the busy Midlothian Turnpike. Much of the crime is happening in broad daylight.

There have been at least 4 reported armed robberies in less than 4 weeks. All of them have been on the 6000 block of Midlothian Turnpike.

"To do it in broad daylight means they don't care," said Wanda Green who drives the stretch each day. "They are doing anything necessary to get what they need, and I think it's a shame."

Green can't imagine fighting with a would be thief.

"It's not worth your life to hold on to $20.00," said Green. "Let them have it."

The robberies date back to June 6th. A man reported being robbed at gunpoint by a man and a woman on the 6600 block of Midlothian.

The latest robbery happened Tuesday night. A woman said she was robbed at gunpoint by an unknown male around 4:50 p.m. A man also reported being robbed by two unknown males last Friday on the 6500 block of Midlothian Turnpike.

"I'm worried," said Lessie who lives off Midlothian Turnpike. "I have family out here, too. So even if it doesn't happen to me, I would still be scared for them."

Police would not comment about the recent string of robberies. If you have any information call crime stoppers at 780-1000.
