A Chesterfield developer is fighting to build a tropical style water park near Route 288.
This would be on Newbies-Bridge Road, near Belmont Road and 288. It is being pitched as a tropical paradise called Las Olas, meaning "the waves."
Some neighbors are saying the peace and quiet they already have will be ruined by a hotel, tiki huts, and tourists.
Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., Chesterfield's supervisors will vote on whether or not this can happen. The plan also calls for a 75,000 square-foot surf pool, shops and restaurants, and a health club.
Planners say there aren't enough roads in the area to handle the traffic that a tropical destination would bring, but the developer says this area is specifically named an economic development opportunity site.
