A fox that bit a Chesterfield woman near her Brandermill home has tested positive for rabies.
The fox bit a woman several times Tuesday in the 13600 block of Quail Hollow Lane, off Brandermill Parkway. She was bitten on her feet, legs and arms and treated at St. Francis Hospital. She was released a few hours later. A neighbor had helped contain the fox until officers arrived.
Animal Control is asking residents to be on the lookout following the positive rabies test. If you see foxes, raccoons or opossums lingering around homes during daylight hours, acting aggressive or appearing sick or injured call (804) 748-1251.
The County also says not to leave pet food out overnight or feed wildlife. You should also keep your pets on your property, and ensure that all dogs and cats have a current rabies vaccination.
Chesterfield will hold a rabies clinic Saturday at the County Fairgrounds on Courthouse Road from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Vaccinations for dogs and cats cost $8 per animal. Cats should be brought in a pet carrier for safety.
