A jury trial is set for a former Richmond public school teacher's aide accused of child sex crimes Wednesday. The trial begins at 9 a.m. in Richmond Circuit Court.
This all began back in May of last year when Alex Erby was arrested and charged with taking indecent liberties with minors.
Erby was a teacher's aide at G.H. Reid Elementary School on Richmond's southside. At one point, Erby faced two charges of taking indecent liberties with two children, ages 10 and 11. However, one charge was dropped in June of last year.
The Commonwealth's Attorney said there wasn't enough evidence from one victim's testimony to prosecute that charge.
Just two months later, a new charge of assault and battery popped up after a third person came forward with serious accusations against Erby.
When this all unfolded last year, a lot of people stood in support of Erby. They didn't believe the allegations against the teacher, coach, father and husband. They didn't want people to jump to conclusions.
However, starting Wednesday morning, a jury will begin reviewing will begin reviewing the evidence, and it will be up to its members to determine a conclusion in the case against Alex Erby.
