Family members talk about the storm that killed a 4-year-old boy

We are hearing from little Shawn's family for the first time about what exactly happened at Maymont park when a huge storm came through Thursday.

Shawn's great aunts living in northern Tennessee are heartbroken.

They tell us why the boys were at Maymont park the afternoon the storm rolled in.

"Shawn and Caleb loved the outdoors, and his father was off that week, and they went to the park to see the animals," said Shawn's great aunt, Perrian Stanley.

When the clouds darkened -and the winds started howling - the boy's father knew it was time to go.

"The park was closing and they were asking people to leave because the storm was coming and he had Shawn's hand and Caleb was ahead of them, his older brother, and the tree uprooted and came down on John," said Stanley.

Then the unthinkable happened.

"Shawn was killed instantly, John was injured he had surgery today, a broken arm, and Caleb ran and got help for his dad and his little brother," said Stanley.

The storm soon passed, now a family deals with a painful loss forever.

"This is our little boy. He's a big part of our family and I wanted people to see Shawn; how cute he was. He was a sweetheart, he was precious," said Stanley.

"We're all a very close family and the lord's blessed us, and he blessed us to have Shawn for 4 and a half years," said Shawn's great aunt, Pamela Johnson.

Shawn's father, John, is still in fair condition hoping to be released Saturday.
