Power outages force delays & closures in Prince George and Petersburg


Thousands in Central Virginia's are still feeling the impact from Thursday's storms that have caused a number of schools and businesses to close or open on a delay.

Prince George County and Petersburg Schools are closed.

All Prince George government offices are closed.

District Court is opening on a two-hour delay.

Richard Bland College is also closed.

Thousands of people woke up without power Friday morning in the Central Virginia area. 

As of 7 a.m.  there were about 38,000 Dominion customers without power in the Richmond and Tri-cities area. 12,000 of those customers are in Chesterfield.

Southside Electric reported a little over 14,000 customers without power. More than 2,000 of those customers were in Amelia County.

Rappahannock Electric reported a little over 2,100 customers in the dark. The majority of those were in Caroline County with about 871 customers.

Crews want to warn drivers that lot of traffic signals may be out of order.

Dominion crews are out working throughout the morning and say they are making good progress.
