Movie crew filming in Richmond for new Kennedy movie

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

It's time for lights, camera, and action in Richmond. Right now, the cast of the new movie "Killing Kennedy" is filming in our area. NBC12 caught crews in Ginter Park Wednesday and caught up with the caterer for the cast.

At the Zacharias Ganey Health Institute, movie trailers and set supplies surrounded a section near the parking lot. The filming is creating a lot of excitement here, especially after a new photo just released by the National Geographic Channel showing acclaimed actor Rob Lowe looking quite presidential as he depicts President John F. Kennedy.

"I think that it's wonderful that Hollywood is coming back to Virginia," said Winnie Hazelton when she drove past the area where filming is underway.

NBC12 also found a caterer on hand that traveled from Floyd to feed the cast and crew.

"I realized there was a little market for it. Last couple of years, tax breaks have enabled the film industry to come to Virginia," said Adam Morrison of Two Trees Catering.

With the cast and crew in our area for the next several weeks, you can probably bet that the attention of many Richmonders now shifts to celebrity sightings.

Last weekend, actress Ginnifer Goodwin enjoyed a meal at Bistro Bobette according to her Twitter page. Wednesday, owners confirmed that.

"We treated her with respect and let her have her own privacy…and that's the way she likes it," Chef Francis Devilliers said.

Even Rob Lowe stopped by, but there was little the restaurant could do.

"He came by yesterday at a time, unfortunately, where we could not accommodate him. We were not open then but hopefully we'll have the pleasure of seeing him again," Devilliers added.

No worries. Lowe walked a few shops down and dined Tuesday at the Urban Farmhouse Cafe.

"We're trying to treat them with total respect and respect their privacy," Hazelton said.

Sources tell NBC12, the scene cast members filmed Wednesday is a scene from The White House swimming pool.

The film will debut in November to mark 50 years since President Kennedy's death. "Killing Kennedy" is a follow-up to Bill O'Reilly's popular book "Killing Lincoln". The Kennedy movie will recount the period surrounding the former President's assassination.

Killing Kennedy will be shown as a two-hour documentary on the National Geographic Channel in November to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the assassination.

Governor McDonnell's office says once filming is complete, the project will be eligible for film incentives from the state.
