PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A judge on Wednesday handed down a six-year prison sentence to a Phoenix man who admitted to severely abusing his 7-week-old son.

Taylor Basilio, 31, pleaded guilty to attempted child abuse and child abuse after his son suffered fractures to the skull and other areas of his body in December 2011.

Judge John Ditsworth also sentenced Basilio to lifetime probation.

Basilio and his wife, Candice, took the infant to the hospital for a flu shot when doctors noticed the child was underweight. They ordered X-rays when the skull fracture and fractures to a clavicle and rib were discovered.

Taylor Basilio admitted to a doctor he had shaken the baby on three different occasions and to pulling the baby's arms "out of frustration," according to a police report.

He called himself an angry man and said, "I have done stupid things lately."

Both parents are deaf and communicated with police through a sign-language interpreter.
