VSU's Dean excited, confident about new coaches

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Valdosta State Blazers didn't wait long to name former offensive coordinator Robbie Brown's replacements.

Brown left his post as OC and quarterbacks coach in January to take the same job at NCAA FCS-level Northwestern State.

Head Coach David Dean named two men to Brown's former posts quickly, promoting offensive line coach Andy Richman to OC, and naming former Louisville QB Adam Froman the Blazers' QB coach.

Richman is tasked with leading VSU's high-octane offense, which averaged over 460 yards and 41 points per game last season, but Dean knows how much of an impact Richman had on those numbers.

"He was our run game coordinator last year, and everybody knows how successful we were with our run game, having two 1000 yard rushers as freshmen," says Dean. "I thought it was just a natural progression for him to move up."

Dean looked outside the program and brought Froman in from LSU, where he was an offensive assistant last season.

Froman started at QB for two seasons at Louisville, then signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2011.

He also played professionally in the Canadian and Arena Football Leagues.

Dean says he's excited to bring the young man in to lead his quarterbacks.

"He's played under some good, good people. He played in the NFL for a while. He's been at LSU, and everybody knows the success LSU has had, especially with quarterbacks," Dean says. "It's exciting to see the new things that he's going to bring to our program, and talking to him, he's really fired up about being here."

Froman has quite a talented group to work with. Senior QB Cayden Cochran threw for over 2700 yards and 26 TDs last season. Behind him is redshirt freshman Kaleb Nobles, who is waiting in the wings.
