Teens caught on camera trying to break into Hopewell home

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) -

Police are investigating a rash of home break-ins in Hopewell and the most recent is caught on camera.

The latest one happened late Tuesday night at a home on Meadow Street. Police say two teenage boys tripped the alarm on a home security camera before they were able to steal anything.

"Once the officers arrived on scene they noticed a broken window," said Detective Sgt. R. Camacho of Hopewell Police.

The boys didn't actually get inside. When the alarm went off, they took off. Then, Hopewell police were notified through the security company.

"It's very nice to have this type of evidence, especially when you don't know who these individuals are," said Camacho.

Police are hoping surveillance video will lead to an arrest. They say there have been more than a dozen home break-ins in Hopewell in the last few weeks.

"We do have school resource officers, we reached out to them," said Camacho.

Police are looking to see if any of the recent break-ins are connected. If you have information that can help call Hopewell Crimesolvers at (804) 541-2202. You don't have to give your name.
