RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Police arrested a Richmond mother Wednesday for throwing her newborn baby girl in a Monument Avenue Dumpster.

ShaVaughn Robinson, 27, is charged with felony concealment of a body for disposing of the child's body in the dumpster near Lee Circle. The Commonwealth's Attorneys Office may file additional charges.

The Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death a homicide.

Police found the body behind a building around 8 p.m. Tuesday. When police first got to 1805 Monument Ave., they say the child was wrapped in plastic and was unresponsive.

Police were searching for the person of interest through the night and issued a description of a woman in her 30s wearing a Dallas Cowboys sweatshirt.

Detectives say several people came forward allowing them to identify a suspect and make the arrest. They are not looking for anyone else in connection with this crime.

Police also want to get the word out there that rather than turning to this, mothers in a desperate position can go to the emergency room up to two weeks after delivery and hand over a baby for adoption.
