After we learned that the Boston Bomber, terrorist Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was buried in Doswell Virginia, many, I am sure, could not understand why anyone in Virginia would allow this man to be buried on Virginia soil.
Additionally, there are many who would question why he should even be buried in the United States. These are good questions and they deserve good examination. The story became more interesting when we learned that it was a Christian woman, with the support of religious leaders of various denominations, who ensured that Tsarnaev would have a proper Islamic burial.
No doubt throughout the history of America we have buried criminals that have committed heinous crimes, including those who have committed terrorist acts against the state, but this one just seems different.
When Timothy McVeigh was executed in 2001 for committing the deadliest domestic terrorist act, second only to 9/11, a newly-passed Federal Law prohibited McVeigh from being buried in a military cemetery. No one claimed his body, so it was cremated and given to his lawyer, who scattered the ashes at an undisclosed location.
The one thing I do know is that only the law and your personal faith can answer these questions.
