Police: Broad Street triple shooting not random

There is new information about a fatal triple shooting along Broad Street. Richmond police now believe the violence started in a popular nightclub.

Police say a fight broke out at Paradise Lounge late Saturday night. Three people were shot in a nearby parking lot along Broad and 4th Street. One of them died.

"It just so happens there was a fight inside the club earlier," said Captain Emmett Williams. "And then, outside the club, there was a shooting."

Three people were shot nearby on the busy Broad Street.

"Is this a random shooting?" we asked Captain Williams.

"It is not random," said Captain Williams who is convinced someone saw something. "There were a lot of people at that club that night."

Police say many of the trouble makers were kicked out of the club, but that is not where things ended. Police are investigating a possible link because the shooting happened just a block away from the club in a public parking lot along Broad and 4th Street.

"It is a sad situation," said Charles Willis with Citizens Against Crime. "We at Citizens Against Crime are calling for a corporate prayer, and we'll be announcing that date pretty soon."

Willis says they have held far too many vigils for the fallen. He notes that one of the three shooting victims is dead. The other two victims are in critical condition.

"Prayer changes things and it changes people," said Willis. "We are not being religious about it, but we have tried everything else. We've put policies in place. We have locked people up."

Police say club owners have been cooperating. If you have any information call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
