Police say a woman was brutally attacked and stabbed during a robbery right by the Jefferson Hotel. It was just before 1:00 a.m. Friday when police responded to the scene in the 100 block of West Franklin Street.
We're told the victim was attacked by an unknown male - who then stole her belongings - and took off, leaving her bleeding in the street.
"It's awful, I know this neighborhood is doing a lot to try and make it more of a residential area, more safe, more family friendly, and it's really tragic, I'm sorry that it happened," said jogger, Loren Hatcher.
"something needs to be done, that's scary to know that it's somewhere close to where I go everyday and sometimes I bring my son with me, that could have been me robbed and stabbed with my son right there," said Trent Foster.
The attack occurred close to the iconic luxury Jefferson Hotel located in the heart of Richmond.
Many were surprised to hear that and they're hoping other women are careful.
"You really shouldn't do it, walking late at night here, it's really not safe, especially if you're a woman by yourself, men see you by yourself, they'll take advantage of that, that you're weak, you're not going to fight back, and it's really not safe for you to walk by yourself late at night," said Foster.
Police are hoping you can help them with this case. If you know anything that can lead to an arrest call crime stoppers at 780-1000.
