Man accused of beating Goochland teacher goes to court

GOOCHLAND, VA (WWBT) -

The man accused of beating a Goochland teacher will be in court Friday, and may plead insanity.

A judge ordered Uriah Harris to undergo a mental evaluation. So far, he's facing attempted murder and malicious wounding charges.

The attack happened in December where police say Harris beat his ex-girlfriend in her school's parking lot. Two other teachers are credited for jumping in and saving her life.

    A couple is recovering in the hospital, after being seriously hurt in a house fire in Disputanta. Crews got the call around 1:45 a.m. Saturday. When they got to the home in the 13000 block of Arwood Road, the two residents were outside, after managing to escape the flames. Prince George Fire officials say the couple suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation, and were transported to VCU Medical Center. Firefighters say they were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.
