DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT) -

Dinwiddie deputies arrested a man Thursday after they say he drove the wrong way down a road, then threatened to hurt a 2-year-old that was in the vehicle.

Deputies responded to the 7500 block of Boydton Plank Road after several calls that someone was driving north in the southbound lane. After a brief low-speed pursuit, the vehicle was stopped.

Deputies say Randy Ferrell, 50, refused to get out of the vehicle, then grabbed the 2-year-old girl in the passenger seat and threatened to hurt her. Ferrell was forcefully removed from the vehicle in a brief struggle with deputies.

The girl, identified as Ferrell's daughter, was taken to VCU Medical Center. Her condition is not known at this time. A deputy received minor injuries and was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center.

Randy Ferrell is charged with felony attempting to elude police and felony child endangerment and neglect and will be held without bond. His court date is May 13.
