Henrico sophomore earns recognition as young entrepreneur

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Annie Ward Love does what quite a few other students probably do in class at Henrico High.

"I doodle in class a lot," said Love.

However, for this sophomore, doodling is more than just passing the time away.

It is her business - a business that includes, "Note cards, calendars, and T-shirts, and prints with little drawings of girls," said Love.

It is called Love Lines, and she started the business when she was just 12-years-old.

"I took this fashion illustration class in elementary school at the Visual Arts Center, and that's where I got the idea for the tall, skinny people," said Love.

Today, all of Annie Ward's "tall skinny people" are on various items, sold in 26 retail stores in six states.

She has sold over 8000 note cards and 1000 calendars. She has even been commissioned to create special illustrations and logos for corporate and educational clients.

Annie Ward has won several awards and has been featured in numerous publications, which why she was recently selected as the 2013 Student Entrepreneur of the Year by the Richmond chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners.

"I was surprised. I mean, I definitely never thought when I started this business when I was 12, I didn't think it would get me this far," said Love.

However, it has.

Annie Ward is already planning to make Love Lines even bigger and better, and she encourages any young person with a desire for business to do the same.

"Just go for it. You don't have to wait for someone to like give you permission. You can just start it. It's not that hard," said Love.
