A man convicted in the murder of an Atlee High School student is facing new charges stemming from a recent fight in jail.
Xavia Highsmith is facing felony charges for the malicious wounding of a Henrico jail inmate.
The 20-year-old has been charged, along with another inmate, for an attack on another inmate. That inmate's injury was so severe that he had to have multiple staples in the back of his head.
Highsmith, along with two other teens, shot 16-year-old Brett Wells in January of 2012, so they could steal the marijuana he was planning to sell to them.
Highsmith was sentenced earlier this year to 27 years in prison in connection with that shooting death.
