Two local athletes ink with college teams

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Westover girls basketball team seems to always find its way in the thick of things towards the end of the year and Shantaria Williams has been a big reason why.

Head coach Lewis Smith calls Williams one of the best rebounders he has ever coached. She'll be taking those defensive skills over to East Georgia State in Swainsboro.

Friends and family wont have to go far to see Williams play during certain weeks. The Lady Bobcats play in the GCAA, the same conference as Darton and Albany Tech.

She lettered in basketball each of her 4 years at Westover and  gives tons off credit to those closest to her for their help when she needed it the most.

"They were happy. They were glad that I pushed through it because there were a lot of times that I wanted to give up and stop playing basketball but they were always there to tell me keep going," said Williams.

Williams will join former Albany star Chasity Mullins at East Georgia. She'll major in Criminal Justice.

Meanwhile, over in Chula today, first place Tiftarea sends pitcher Eric Lee not far down the road to ABAC. The 6'4 right hander is batting .508 with 5 home runs this season.

He's 6-1 on the mound this season a huge reason behind the Panthers number 3 state ranking.  Lee also plays first base.
