Richmond Police need your help to identify a person of interest in several thefts at Stony Point Fashion Park.
Police are now investigating if the thefts could be part of a larger black market crime operation.
A display of Gucci sunglasses proved too tempting for a sticky-fingered thief at the Solstice store at Stony Point Fashion Park. The person of interest has an even more interesting blonde hairdo.
"And she is supposed to have a mohawk style where it is shaved on both sides," said Detective Charles Kane. "I think it is someone that you would recognize if you saw her in public or if you knew her. We just really would like to be able to identify her."
The first incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on April 11 at the Sunglasses Hut at Stony Point, when a woman stole six pairs of sunglasses by hiding them in her purse. Detectives believe a second woman who distracted the sales clerk may also be involved.
Then a week later at the Solstice Sunglasses at Stony Point, five pairs of sunglasses were stolen. The offenders are described as being in their late 20s to early 30s. Police say the high end shades total more than $3,000.
Police say a similar incident has happened at Short Pump Town Center. Detectives are investigating to see if the cases are related.
"It seems like they are going back and reselling these items somewhere," said Detective Kane.
Police note they have increased patrols at local malls.
"There is increased patrols out there at Stony Point and other places," said Detective Kane. "But we can't be everywhere all the time."
