Firefighters rescue two dogs from Portsmouth apartment fire

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Two dogs are alive and well after firefighters pulled them out of a Portsmouth apartment fire Sunday.

When firefighters arrived to put out a kitchen fire on Sandra Lane off Deep Creek Boulevard, they found the dogs on the floor and not breathing.

Rescue crews used medical equipment and CPR training to get them breathing again. The dogs are expected to be ok.

Firefighters contained the fire to the kitchen, but the apartment sustained smoke damage throughout. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
