Harvick takes checkered flag at RIR

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Kevin Harvick won Saturday night's race at Richmond International Raceway by plowing through traffic on a two-lap sprint to the finish. It marks his first victory of 2013 in the Sprint Cup series and second top-ten finish of the year.

Juan Pablo Montoya was trying to hold off Harvick for his first win since 2010 when the caution came out with four laps remaining. It sent the race into two laps of overtime, and most of the field gave up track position to pit for tires.

Montoya came off pit road in sixth and Harvick was seventh for the restart, but Harvick rocketed through the field to snatch away the win. Montoya said after the race that his position on the restart doomed him and had he been on the inside it may have been a different story.

Clint Bowyer was second, Joey Logano third, and Montoya settled for fourth.

Tony Stewart restarted in fifth, but was bumped out of the way by Kurt Busch and wound up 18th.

Matt Kenseth started on the pole and led for much of the early going, but fell back and finished seventh.  Kenseth put together a solid overall effort at a track he traditionally struggles at less than one week after his team was hit with substantial penalties for an overweight engine rod.

It also marked the fourth straight race that Denny Hamlin missed due to his injured back.  Hamlin spent the race watching from Brian Vickers' pit box.  Vickers ran near the front during the early stages of the race, but fell back after a pit stop and ended up crashing in the final laps.
