Memorial held for 2 VSU students killed in hazing ritual

ETTRICK, VA (WWBT) - Virginia State University held a noon memorial for two freshman killed during a initiation ceremony.

The tribute was held inside VSU's Daniel Gymnasium and filled with prayer, song and remembrances for the students.

Investigators positively identified the second body pulled from the Appomattox River as Jauwan Holmes Friday. Marvell Edmondson's body was pulled from the river Monday.

Four men are each charged with five counts of hazing in the drowning deaths. Three have been arrested. Police are still trying to find that fourth suspect, Charles Zollicoffer. Police say they are with a group known as "Men of Honor," which is not sanctioned by VSU.

The young men were swept away over the weekend by the swift waters of the Appomattox near Petersburg during what police called an initiation.

Hundreds showed up to Marvell Edmondson old high school in Portsmouth to remember him Wednesday night.

Edmondson's funeral will be held in Portsmouth Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
