Chesterfield police identify body of VSU student found in Appomattox River

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield Police have identified a body of a Virginia State University student recovered in the Appomattox River Monday.

Police said Tuesday the body was that of 19-year-old Marvell Edmondson. He was one of two Virginia State University students reported missing in the early hours of Saturday. Crews are still searching for the second student, 19-year-old Jauwan M. Holmes.

Edmondson is from Portsmouth and Jauwan Holmes is from Williamsburg. They were last seen near the MLK Bridge, between downtown Petersburg and Colonial Heights, according to VSU. The search is difficult because of a swift current, and the water level, which is at its highest in months.
