River search resumes for missing VSU students - NBC12 - WWBT - Richmond, VA News On Your Side

1 body found, still searching for other missing VSU student in river search

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Authorities have announced that a body has been recovered in the search for two VSU students that went missing at the Appomattox River early Saturday. Police have not revealed the identity of the body at this time.

Chesterfield Police confirmed Monday missing student Marvell Edmondson is from Portsmouth and Jauwan Holmes is from Williamsburg.

The two were last seen in the Appomattox River, around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Two days of searching by air and boat turned up nothing.

VSU says Edmondson and Holmes were last seen near the MLK Bridge, between downtown Petersburg and Colonial Heights. The search is difficult because of a swift current, and the water level, which is at its highest in months.

Lake Chesdin is nearly 100% full and it empties into the Appomattox River. Friday's rainfall also sent more water into the Appomattox.

VSU also says there will be counseling sessions for students starting at 9 a.m. at Foster Hall.
