JAMES CITY COUNTY, VA (WWBT) -

A second person has died in a single-engine Cessna plane crashed near the Williamsburg/Jamestown Airport.

The plane crashed into the Williamsburg Landing subdivision on Boatwright Circle just before 5 p.m. Friday, according to the James City County Fire Department.

Assistant Fire Chief Bob Ryalls says the plane went down in a wooded area about 50 yards from a residence. There was no fire when it crashed.

"It's a tragedy," Assistant James City County Fire Chief Robert Ryalls. "Our concern was if there was a random spark that could cause an explosion. We didn't want anybody getting hurt."

State police released the names of the two people killed in the plane crash late Friday. They have been identified as the pilot, 54 year old Joseph Brown and his wife, 52 year old Susan Brown. Both of them are from Nebraska. The family dog was also killed in the crash.

State police have secured the site and will stay there overnight. The FAA responded to the scene and the NTSB will be back tomorrow morning.
