A Chester man now has more to deal with than just the death of his infant son. Prosecutors announced Tuesday they are charging Bradley Simmons with murder.
The six-week-old boy died last month at VCU Medical Center. Prosecutors had been pursing a felony child abuse charge against his father - but they announced Simmons has been indicted on a second degree murder charge.
Simmons is accused of shaking his son and causing a massive head bleed. The child was rushed to the hospital on March 13 after he began to hyperventilate.
Social workers say doctors also discovered several rib fractures.
The ER doctor says the parents' explanations did not match the child's injuries. The boy's mother recalled that a bottle fell in the crib striking the baby in the head. Simmons told officers he may have hit the baby's head several days earlier with a controller, while playing video games.
Simmons is being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail. His trial date has not been set.
