Police are investigating after a deadly crash in Dinwiddie Tuesday night kills one and injures two others.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on Double Branch Road, three miles west of Route 665.
Police say the driver, Jamal Hall, sped through a traffic checking detail that was being conducted by the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office. Deputies followed Hall, the chase reaching speeds over 80 mph.
Hall lost control of his vehicle going east on Double Branch Road and ran off the right side of the roadway, striking an embankment before striking a tree. Hall was taken to the hospital by med-flight with life-threatening injuries.
"The car went in the air, and it spun around in the opposite direction it was going," said Ashton Jones, whose family lives across the street from the scene. "It was smoking when I went outside, and it took out tree branches ten feet high."
The front seat passenger, James Manson Jr., was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center with serious non-life threatening injuries.
The back seat passenger, Darius Cox, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Police continue to investigate the accident. Charges are pending against the driver by both the Virginia State Police and Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office.
