RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts opens up a new exhibit featuring the pop artist Tom Wesselmann.

The exhibit, called "Pop Art and Beyond: Tom Wesselmann" opened on Saturday. It features some of his well known pop art, as well as additional works like still lifes, abstract collages and 3D paintings.

"The exhibition is beautiful," said John Ravenal, curator at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. "It's a stunning exhibition, it's bright, it's bold. There are monumental works that are surprising around every corner. They might think that they know a little bit about Tom Wesselman, but I hope they would come away with a much fuller understanding of who he is, and what the entire career means."

Some of the art work has never before been publicly exhibited, and the VMFA is the only east coast venue for this exhibit.

The exhibit runs from April 06 to July 28. Admission is Free for VMFA members, children 6 and under, and active-duty military personnel and their immediate families, $15 for adults.
