Update: Officer injured responding to I-95 DUI crash in Richmond

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A Richmond man is facing charges after running into the back of a City of Richmond Police cruiser on Interstate 95 early Saturday Morning.

A City of Richmond Police Sergeant was inside her vehicle around 3:20 a.m. Saturday when the driver of a 2003 Dodge Stratus hit the rear of her patrol car. The sergeant had stopped in the left travel lane on the northbound side to assist State Police with a crash that occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday on the southbound side of 95 at mile marker 71. 

The police vehicle did have its emergency lights activated.  The officer was transported to VCU Medical Center with minor injuries.

The driver of the Dodge, 45 year old Ronald J. Carroll, Jr. of Richmond, was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence. Carroll was not injured in the crash.
