Six people injured in crash on I-95 in Richmond

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A Colonial Heights man has been charged with driving under the influence following a four car crash on Interstate 95 at the 71 mile marker in the City of Richmond.

Around 2:30 Saturday morning, Virginia State Police responded to the crash after the driver of a Hyundai Elantra was rear-ended by the driver of a Dodge Neon. After the crash, the Hyundai hit the jersey wall before being hit by a Mercedes and a Toyota Camry.

The driver and two passengers in the Dodge Neon suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries. The driver and passenger in the Hyundai and the driver of the Mercedes suffered minor injuries. Everyone was taken to VCU Medical Center by ambulance.

The driver of the Dodge Neon, 24-year-old Darrell Payne Jr. has been charged with driving under the influence. Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing.
