Richmond Police search for escaped prisoner

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond Police are looking for an inmate who managed to break free of an officer and run away.

An officer was taking Kip Merle Rannels, 20, to the City Jail lockup at 400 N. 9th Street around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, when he got away.  He was last seen running in handcuffs near the railroad tracks at Hospital and Valley roads when the officers lost sight of him.

Rannels was initially arrested on charges of burglary and grand larceny. He has tattoos of letters on his lower neck and what may be flames on his arm.

 Anyone with any information about Rannels' whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
