Driver of charter bus charged in deadly Southampton crash

CAPRON, VA (WWBT) -

The driver of a charter bus that overturned Friday morning in Southampton County, killing one passenger and severely injuring another, has been charged with reckless driving.

Larry Brocks, 62, of Raleigh, NC lost control of the bus around 7 a.m. while bringing students from Chapel Hill, NC to Hampton University's Open House Day. The bus was headed east on Route 58 at Route 652 when it ran off the right side of the road, overturning in a ditch.

Doval Emmanuel Watson, 58, of Chapel Hill, NC was killed and another passenger ejected from the bus. The second victim was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with major injuries. The other six passengers were students ages 13 to 17. They were not injured. 

Gloria Doyle, president of the Durham-Chapel Hill Chapter of the Hampton University Alumni Association, told WAVY.com Watson is past-president of the Durham-Chapel Hill Chapter of the Hampton University Alumni Association.

The bus was own by Horizon Coach Lines, based out of Seattle.

Family members of the victims are concerned for the safety of the community, as are new members of the Clemency Board. CBS 5 Investigates videotaped Huff riding a bike through his Tucson neighborhood. There are no restrictions placed on his proximity to children.
