Autopsy: Woman found dead in Chesterfield house fire was shot

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Police now say a Chesterfield woman was shot before her house was set on fire.

An autopsy conducted Wednesday revealed that the body of a woman pulled from the charred home in the 13600 block of Duxton Drive Tuesday had a gunshot wound.

The victim has been identified as Madalyn Carey - this information is coming from the president of Virginia College in Richmond, who said Carey had been there since April 2011 and was a medical assistant instructor.

Police are now investigating the death as a homicide and continue to look for Lloyd Edward Warren Jr, 46, who was also living at the home. Police say Warren is a person of interest and may be driving a black 2009 Nissan Altima with Virginia license plates WWA-2759. The car is missing from the Duxton Drive address.

The fire started around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and quickly devoured the home. Neighbors say the flames spread in just ten minutes. Investigators say the woman's body was found in the master bedroom, located alongside the garage.

Anyone with any information should contact Chesterfield County Police 804-748-1251.
