Drivers should expect big delays on the Powhite Bridge for the next month.
The James River crossing will get a major makeover that all starts Wednesday night. This will just be the southbound lanes.
Powhite pavement will be new and improved, giving drivers a smoother ride over the bridge.
The pavement project will be primarily on Wednesdays and Thursdays, sunset to sunrise. This will last until May.
On weekends, work will be going on at all hours of the day. People will be walking in the lanes, setting up or starting construction. That's why drivers are asked to slow it down to 45 mph, to watch out for workers.
Next year, we'll see the northbound side re-paved.
The pavement project is costing $3 million. This is all to give drivers a smother ride on the Powhite, crossing the James River.
