RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - In this week's Politifact Virginia report, Virginia Beach Congressman Scott Rigell has taken some heat because of his stance on gun issues. The National Association for Gun Rights is on the attack with his tough ad about his record on the second amendment.
"Rigell also wants gun owners in a federal registration system," the ad states.
But the reporters at Politifact Virginia finds this claim is so wrong that the National Association for Gun Rights' pants are on fire. Warren Fiske says Rigell consistently opposed plans to form a national gun registry.
"Some gun groups, including the NRA, have said that increased or universal background checks are tantamount to starting a national gun registry. We don't agree with that because federal law requires the FBI to dispose of gun transfer records 24 hours after a gun sale is approved," Fiske said.
