RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Shaka watch is in full effect and rumors are swirling about his courtship by Minnesota and UCLA, but the coach is still hanging out at VCU for now.

Earlier Wednesday, the Twitterverse was buzzing with word that Coach Shaka Smart was in Minnesota, perhaps to talk with the administration there about their opening after the firing of Tubby Smith. After all, Athletic Director Norwood Teague worked with Smart at VCU. So, when tweets like this went out, they seemed to have some merit:

"A close source said Shaka Smart is in Minneapolis, my hometown & I love it! 3.3 & 7 Guaranteed 21+million" - @areacodes (Chad Groth)

Unfortunately for Groth, his sources seem to be off. Or at best, jumping the gun a bit. VCU student Brandon Thomas spotted Smart in the VCU cafeteria this morning and provided a picture to prove it.

"Eating breakfast in Shafer, look up and I'm across from Shaka Smart." - @BTDood (Brandon Thomas)

So, Smart appears to still be in Richmond, at least of this morning. VCU fans hope that, along with reports that he's working on a restructured contract, mean he's staying around to lead the Rams basketball team. At least, until after next year's tournament run when the talk starts up all over again.
