Teens rob women inside Richmond braid shop

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The owner of an African braid shop in Richmond's Southside Plaza is ramping up security after two teens terrorized customers for more than half an hour there.

The victims say the two teens took off with their belongings. The store owner says she's fed up and won't let this happen again.

The front door of the salon is normally locked, but Friday afternoon a couple of teens with bad intentions got through. The victims say the young men, wearing masks and dark clothes, barged in demanding the women get down on the floor and hand over their money, keys and cell phones.

"So I laid down and I was just praying and spitting the blood of Jesus," said one employee who was robbed.

Several more women ran to the back and even locked themselves in the bathroom. Aida Dhim says the robbers were there 30 to 40 minutes before running out the door. She says no one even saw from outside what was happening. Signs cover most of the windows.

"If they would have taken the money and killed us that's the worst thing, but we're still alive," said Dhim.

Dhim says she plans on installing security cameras inside her shop. She's also going to keep her front door locked to keep her and her customers safe.

"I felt sorry for everybody who was here and that happened," Dhim added. "I told the customers who were here because everybody was crying and we didn't know what to do."

Dhim says two of the women there are even pregnant.

"I was praying. it's my first time seeing something like that," said one of the pregnant employees.

Dhim is making sure this is the last time.

"Some people told me to get a gun so I'm going to get a gun too to fight for myself," Dhim noted.

Police are still looking for the teens. If you can help, call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
