RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - In this week's Politifact Virginia Report- Governor Bob McDonnell continues to beat back criticism of his recently passed plan to fund transportation. Much of that flack comes from his fellow conservatives.
Among those attacking McDonnell is Tea Party Leader Jamie Radtke. She launched a campaign to get McDonnell to veto or amend the plan that she calls the "largest tax increase in Virginia history". Is she right?
Well according to the reporters of Politifact Virginia, Radtke isn't wrong on the numbers but the point she is making is really only "half" true. Sean Gorman claims she doesn't account for a key factor: inflation.
"When we adjusted the figures for inflation we found that the 1966 creation of the sales tax actually was larger in the revenues that it raised than the transportation package," Gorman said.
